A Walk Down Memory Lane

This weekend all around the world begins daylight savings.  It begins at 2:00 am on Sunday, March 8.  Most of you already know that the purpose of daylight savings is to make better use of the the daylight.  All of us change our clocks during the summer months to move a hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.  This helps us make better use of our daylight.  Even though I feel like it's silly sometimes to change the time, it seems relevant as the season of the year changes.  What that means is that when summer comes, the sun won't set here in Colorado till about 9 pm.  All the more extra time in the day to ride, play outside and just have fun. With all of that said, I realized that time change came up really fast this year.  Everything as we get older seems to fly by really quickly and we just have to embrace it and be ready because its happening no matter what. You blink and your kid turns four and is now an independent person.  Thinking back I remember being a child and thinking time took so long for everything.  So, a few weeks ago I was able to walk Traycen down memory lane when we went down to my parents house.  Talk about where the time has gone!  My parents have lived in numerous houses over the past  years and are back in the house that I grew up in when I was in high school.  They are soon to be selling this house and the rural neighborhood is quite changing.  A lot of memories were brought back up when we went down for this particular visit.  With them selling their house soon and moving onto where God has them next, I felt like it was a good time to go back in time when I was growing up and to share that with my son!

Welcome to McArthur Ranch!

My dads dream house!  It is seriously beautiful! This is the gate at the beginning of the driveway.  These old gates my dad brought back from his farm in Illinois.  When we were down for our visit and my dad asked if we could help him go open the gates in the driveway.  Traycen is always all about opening up any gate (they turn into bucking chutes)!  As we were helping him I remembered when I tried backing our gooseneck trailer up the driveway with a friend of mine.  I totally was not a good driver, my husband would probably say I'm still not a good driver to this day, but I ended up getting too close to the gate and completely ripped the gate off the hinge.  I thought I  was going to be in so much trouble.  At the time my dad didn't know that I had broken the gate because I traded my neighbor some of my dads cigars to go over and weld the gate back on.  The things you do when you feel you are desperate and are going to get in trouble right!  As I told my dad this later on in life he was shocked stating "I had no idea"!  That was kind of the point, although now learning the things I have learned in life and giving my life over to God I know that was wrong, so don't do what I did.

Traycen always being a great helper!

imageThis house!  I always would drive past this house everyday on my way to school and back home.  The driveway was lined up purple autumn ash trees and at the bottom of the driveway stood this beautiful house.  This house had a wrap around porch and was very "country".  I never went in this house but I always loved star gazing over it because it was considered one of my "dream homes".  It still is just as beautiful now as it was then.

image As we were driving we spotted some deer!  There used to be deer out where we lives and a "known bobcat". Now there has been two black bears in the rural community living along with a bobcat, deer, snakes and more.  The vegetation around this small area goes from prairie grass to high cliffs, scrub oak and pine trees.

These next few pictures brought back the most precious memories of when I had my first horse.  This horse was a mare, sorrel and short, perfect for starting out  running barrels.  Her name was Molokai!

This area of land used to have a lot more on it.  There was an arena where we used to ride, trails, and more.  The gentleman who owned it all has the house and barn are still there, but they are soon to be removed because another couple bought the land and are re-building on it.  We came at the perfect time to be able to see it before they demolish it.

If you look closely in the picture you will see a water tank and a large electrical pole.  Look to the right of the pole and you will see a small trail.  This trail has many memories attached to it! That's it for now! Till next time XOXO Cooped Up Mama Kirste
