Self Identity

What is your identity? Who are you? Are you a true believer, follower of Jesus? Or, are you just building up your resume for a greater purpose, or so you think? If you categorized the things you do, would you say that you are doing them for a.) yourself, b.) others or c.) God? I guess you could say that we'd like to think that we are initially doing it for God, but sometimes we aren't at all. When we start doing tasks just to "superceed" someone else then we should start questioning what we are doing and why we are doing it. What happens is that we start comparing ourselves to everyone else and what they are doing. We start creating a "self-esteem resume" for ourselves to be higher and above others instead of doing things to please God. We feel a void of not having what someone else has and then we get caught up in the inadequacy and emptiness of others.

When I first heard someone say "building up a resume for yourself" I thought, "that can't be me." Let's be honest with ourselves, we've all been guilty of this at some point or another because of the way social media and the world is today. God wants us to be humble and vulnerable with other people and especially with ourselves! You can try lying to yourself but where does that get you, nowhere! God knows who you are and who you are not. I once read "We sin because we rationalize and lie to ourselves. We sin because we are selfish, wanting what we want when we want it." Instead, let's focus on one thing and one thing only, God!!! As Smith Wigglesworth once said, "We want our whole being to be so full of the life of our Lord that the Holy Spirit can speak and act through us. We want to live always through Him." This is exactly how God wants us to be. God wants us to act in the Holy Spirit. Each of us want a part of His glory, miracles and wonders that work out the plan of our King. We just need to be 1.) Ourselves, looking to Him and who God created us to be and, 2.) Acting in the Holy Spirit. Corinthians 2:2 says, " For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." Know God and what His Word says, not what the world says or is trying to lure you into comparing yourselves to. "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God." God has given each of us something different. You can't be you if your trying to be everyone else! Walk out in what the Word says and build yourself on His foundation, not the foundation that will crumble as you tried building it yourself. I'm praying that God speaks to you of where He wants you. Keep your vision on Him, and only Him. He will guide your path and lead the way. Walk in righteousness and freedom of who He has created you to be.

Ephesians 3:14-21, "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
